Andrew Kayser I Not Enough Time to Do Nothing
-
This is not the culmination of a journey, more of a pitstop. I’ve pulled over to pause, reflect and consider the way forward. The two main works in this exhibition are a condensation of the thematic and formal concerns which have occupied me for the past 18 months. They show me where I have been and open up possibilities for what is to come. It’s an exciting time. It’s time to get moving.

About Andrew Kayser
Andrew Kayser (b. 1975, South Africa) is a contemporary artist living and working in inner-city Johannesburg, South Africa. He graduated from the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Royal Academy of Art), Den Haag, Netherlands in 2001 and went on to participate in several exhibitions in and around the Netherlands before returning to South Africa in 2005.
After a lengthy struggle with alcoholism, Kayser regained sobriety, resuming his professional practice of art in 2014. He has since held 3 solo exhibitions: A Moderate Bliss (THK Gallery, 2019) Christ Haus!! (Kalashnikovv Gallery, 2019) and At Home After Dark (Kalashnikovv Gallery, 2017).
He has participated in numerous group shows – most recently Cubicle Series January 2020 (Everard Read, Cape Town, SA) – and in 2019 his work was selected by THK Gallery to travel to Cologne Fine Art & Design, AKAA (Also Known As Africa) Art & Design Fair in Paris and Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair. In 2020, his work was exhibited by THK Gallery at the 1-54 London art fair.
Kayser shows regularly at both FNB Joburg Art Fair and Investec Cape Town Art Fair and is represented in collections locally and abroad.
