Kayoon Anderson

Kayoon Anderson (b. 1997, Seoul) is a London-based painter working primarily in oil. Initially trained in architecture, Anderson brings a strong sense of spatial logic and compositional structure to her paintings, constructing carefully ordered yet harmonious environments in which her figures are situated. Her practice draws on European medieval painting and munbangdo still-life traditions, folding these historical references into imagined domestic interiors that reflect her mixed heritage and personal history. These scenes weave together memories of her upbringing in both Korea and the United Kingdom, positioning domestic space as a site of cultural convergence, memory, and quiet introspection.

Anderson’s work has received increasing recognition within contemporary figurative and portrait painting in the UK. In 2024, she was awarded third prize in the Windsor & Newton Young Artist Award and undertook an Artist Residency at The Queen’s College, Oxford, where she further developed her exploration of interiority, architecture, and narrative space.
