Freeze | A Winter Group Show

Past viewing_room
5 August - 30 October 2021
  • Freeze

  • THK Gallery presents Freeze, a winter photography exhibition featuring Tom D. Jones, duo Carol Beckwith & Anglea Fisher, and Douglas Kirkland.

Ahead of our participation in Paris Photo 2021 — the leading international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium — we celebrate these world-renowned photographers that THK Gallery represents.

  • Tom D. Jones is known for his clean compositions and skilful use of light, capturing moments of perfect serenity in the natural world. With an affinity for depicting a stillness that speaks to the infinite, he reflects on the raw beauty of the landscape, both in reverence and as a Requiem. His landscapes capture the natural world — its simultaneous power and fragility — drawing our attention to the enormity of its loss.

  • Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher met over 40 years ago, beginning a photographic partnership that has seen them journey over 300 000 miles on the African continent – through 48 countries and recording 150 African cultures. They have been granted unprecedented access to African tribal rites and rituals and continue to be honoured worldwide for their powerful photographs documenting the traditional ceremonies of cultures thousands of years old. Their works are the result of a long, enduring and deeply respectful relationship with African tribal peoples. This, combined with their photographic skills, creates an intimate portrayal of ceremonies long held secret that might have never been recorded. Their work preserves and presents the power, complexity and celebration found within the rituals of African tribal life.

  • About Tom D. Jones

    About Tom D. Jones

Tom D. Jones (b. 1971, Belgium) founded his first photographic studio in 1999 in partnership with his wife Sylvia - a photographer herself. The recipient of the Hasselblad Master Award (2012), Jones is known for his clean compositions – making use of light and depth to reflect infinite serenity and simplicity. He has an affinity for the serenity that a beautiful image can impart, and sees this as the common thread uniting his various photographic projects. To achieve this feeling of quietude Jones’ images are characteristically unoccupied.

Included in his exhibition are images from travels to far-flung locations – from the barren deserts of Namibia to expansive Icelandic landscapes. Jones’ landscapes reflect the beauty and power of our planet, and he hopes they might in turn draw attention to the damage being done globally to the environment.
